Your wisdom teeth are the last teeth to grow in your mouth, usually in your late teens or early twenties. Sometimes, wisdom teeth do not grow in properly and remain under your gums or only partially emerge. These are referred to as impacted wisdom teeth. It’s common for impacted wisdom teeth to cause pain or discomfort, especially if there’s not room in your jaw for these teeth to grow in. Without the space they need to grow, they can come in at painful, awkward angles. Wisdom teeth are also more prone to infection because they can be difficult or impossible to clean. Considering all these potential problems, we often recommend getting your wisdom teeth extracted.

This is a fairly quick, simple process that we have done for countless patients. After we take digital images of your mouth, we’ll assess the position of your wisdom teeth to plan the procedure. When you come in for your visit, Dr. Patel will first numb the areas around the teeth and provide sedation. With sedation, you will be completely relaxed during the surgery and won’t feel any pain.

After you’re done, he’ll provide you with some instructions to heal quickly and prevent any post-surgery problems. Many cases of wisdom teeth removal take an hour or less, and with proper care, your mouth will be back to normal in just a few days.
